Canada India Network Society (CINS) continues to build upon networks and links in the global community. Our most recent link is with GAPIO, Global Association of Physicians of Indian Origin. GAPIO is connecting physicians of Indian origin globally and have members on every continent. GAPIO is based in India and holds two annual meetings: one in India and one in the diaspora.  

CINS’s Chair and President, Dr. Arun K. Garg was asked to work with the organization from a Canadian standpoint and take the lead in connecting Canadian physicians to the organization. The next meeting is slated for June 27-28, 2015 in Leicester, England as a joint meeting of British Association of Physicians of Indian Origin (BAPIO).

The conference will focus on the theme Think Globally, Act Locally” – Mantra of promoting patient care. More than 200 delegates from India, USA, UK, Australia, Canada, Middle East, Africa and Russia are expected to attend.

The focus of the two day conference will cover Clinical sessions such as Cardiology, Surgery, Oncology, Diabetes, Women & Children, Mental Health and Orthopaedics. There will also be sessions on Global Achievements of Indian Doctors”. And “Global Curriculum for Medical Education and Training: Opportunity or Threat.”

CINS is continues to be interested in developing ground level support in the area of Primary Care and lowering the burden of chronic disease amongst South Asian Population. Though our focus is in the province of British Columbia, Canada for this project, lessons learned will be of interest globally, and especially in India. Future plans include working with GAPIO in this area of interest.
